The Velveteen Rabbit, Margery Williams

Yesterday, when I was procrastinating lurking on Tumblr, I came across a post that quoted arguably the most famous passage from this book. I say arguably, and I’m only speculating, because in truth, I’ve never read the book myself. I know it purely through watching Beauty and the Beast – the first TV series with Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman, not the more recent one which was more eye candy than gut-wrenching drama – and the second I started reading it on Tumblr, I could hear Catherine (Linda Hamilton) reading it. Had a little cry to myself. Decided to share, ‘cos I’m nice/evil like that.

If you never saw the original Beauty and the Beast, oh, what are you doing with yourself? This show was beautiful, had such a love and appreciation of literature and poetry, and Ron Perlman reading poetry is something you really, truly, genuinely need in your life. Trust me.

Anyway, here’s a video of The Velveteen Rabbit from the Beauty and the Beast episodes, Orphans. Come and sob with me.
